The Deweffect is a Skincare Anarchy 2024 Top Pick
Hey you guys! I’m so excited to share that we won a 2024 Skincare Top Picks: Eye Creams Beauty Award by Skincare Anarchy! Plus, you are going to die when I tell you what is behind some of the other awards on the market…I couldn’t believe it! But first…
The product claims on skincare products are out of control, and some even use stock photos that aren’t real before and after photos.
When every product claims to be the best on the market, how do you sort the rhetorical best from the ones that “actually” work? For those of us 40+ it’s become more and more rare to find products that not only work, but are realistic to use consistently, and at a doable price point.
If you haven’t heard of Skincare Anarchy it originated by Dr. Ekta Yadav who created the Skincare Anarchy Podcast. Skincare Anarchy conducts a rigorous scientific evaluation process of over-the-counter products, recognizing brands that stand at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and pioneering advancements in skin science. The awards are based on the following criteria:
- Sound science
- A high standard of scientific validity
- Effectiveness/tangible benefits
- Trustworthiness
7 prototypes later, I am so proud that The eye balm exemplifies the qualities listed above. The Skincare Anarchy Award named The Deweffect under eye balm one of the 2024 top picks for eye products. The Deweffect uses the following effective, clean, scientifically proven ingredients that work quickly and are specifically tailored to the under-eye area:
-
Bacillus ferment: A probiotic peptide, sourced from fermented algae, helps to restore the skin biome, stimulates collagen and elastin, smoothes, and plumps.
-
Hexapeptide – 48: An innovative peptide that helps smooth fine lines and fight the signs of aging.
-
20% Glycerin: A skin-identical ingredient. At higher concentrations, it is more than moisturizing with skin barrier replenishing properties.
-
Micronized Hyaluronic Acid: A dense version of Hyaluronic Acid attracts and retains moisture to plump.
-
Barrier replenishing: Amino acids, proteins, emollients, and humectants nourish and soothe
-
Physalis Angulata: Helps keep irritation at bay and is shown to help reduce micro-inflammation and photoaging.
-
Youth-Preserving Peptides: Made of amino and fatty acids, it helps to reduce inflammation.
- Antioxidants: Vitamin E, Rosemary leaf, & Sunflower combat daily stressors and oxidative damage; thus, preventing and protecting before damage can occur.
After having access to EVERYTHING, while working in dermatology for the last 18+ years, and knowing what worked, what kinda worked, and what really was missing; I set out to create The Deweffect to end the overwhelm, 1 targeted solution at a time. My entire career has been on the medical side of dermatology, immunology, and women’s health, where efficacy is King.
When I created The Deweffect, prescription “like” efficacy, in an easy-to-use formulation was at the core of development. Now that I have a product that’s considered “a beauty product,” I have learned how much the “beauty” industry is like the Wild West.
With so much excitement to share the eye balm with the world, and reach people who really need it, I had a rude awakening. Almost every award out there is a fee to enter and is heavily based on “who you know.” For example, the cost to apply to the Good Housekeeping awards is $695.00. For newer brands, this can be challenging to keep up with.
I am of the naive belief that if you create a better product, you can prevail. The scientific criteria of Skincare Anarchy is what attracted me to apply. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s not just a beauty editor ages 25-32 trying hundreds of products. I am not saying that there aren’t some good awards out there or that I’ll never participate in some of the big-name awards; however, I am especially proud that after a deep evaluation of The Deweffect Eye Balm, we won on merit.
I never thought merit would be a thing of the past. As I delve deeper into the “beauty” side of things, I am shocked that so much of the feedback has been: work on a more “compelling” story and packaging that really sells.
I put 99.9% of the effort and focus into product development. I know the packaging and “branding” aren’t perfect. I am working on some optimization. Please send any feedback my way. Maybe I am old school or disillusioned, but I’m not selling out. I am so grateful for every single one of you being a part of this journey and supporting a female-founded brand, dedicated to skin health.
I’d love to hear how you’re doing and any feedback you have.
With gratitude, April
